Five in 5: Deborah Dugan fired as Recording Academy President/CEO; Lady Gaga’s New Album, ACM Noms, and More

In an effort to keep diversifying my content and staying up-to-date on all things music, I present my new recurring mini-series, Five in 5, where I share five music news stories that you can read in 5 minutes or less.

1. Deborah Dugan fired

Deborah Dugan, former president/CEO of the Recording Academy was fired March 2. Dugan has come under immense public scrutiny as of late due to sexual harassment and gender discrimination allegations she made against the Grammy Awards.

2. IFPI releases a list of the best-selling recording artists of 2019

The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) released its list of the world’s top 10 best-selling recording artists of 2019. Taylor Swift (#1), BTS (#7), Billie Eilish (#4), and The Beatles (#10) were among those who made the cut.

3. Lady Gaga announces new album

Lady Gaga announced that her sixth studio album will be released on April 10. The album, titled Chromatica, follows Gaga’s latest single, “Stupid Love.”

4. ACM Nominations are out

Nominations for the 2020 Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards are out. Maren Morris, Thomas Rhett, Old Dominion, Miranda Lambert, Dan + Shay, Luke Combs, Ashley McBryde, and Kelsea Ballerini are just a few of the artists who have scored noms this year.

5. Adam Levine apologizes for Maroon 5 performance in Chile

Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine apologized for a recent performance in Chile. Levine said his behavior on stage was “unprofessional.” Technological problems are also believed to have played a role.
